About Live Art Dance
Live Art Dance is a pillar of the arts on the East Coast, presenting an annual contemporary dance season featuring diverse works from local, national, and international artists. We strive to be a catalyst and leader in stimulating a healthy, sustainable, and vibrant dance ecology in Kjipuktuk/Halifax and the Atlantic region.
Context
Live Art Dance is grateful and privileged to work in Kjipuktuk, on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. This land is governed by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship, signed by Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik people with the British crown between 1725 and 1779. We are all Treaty People.
Live Art Dance also recognizes the African Nova Scotian communities who have called this land home for 400 years, and whose labour has been integral to the infrastructure of the city in which we work.

Position Summary
Live Art Dance is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. The person in this position will play a key role in supporting our strategic development through research and archiving initiatives, with a focus on sustainability, funding, and audience engagement in the not-for-profit dance sector.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct research into slow-touring models applicable to not-for-profit dance organizations
- Investigate alternative funding models and practices to enhance organizational sustainability
- Explore audience engagement strategies within the contemporary dance and performing arts sector
- Organize and synthesize research findings into usable formats tailored to Live Art Dance’s needs
- Develop a comprehensive grant funding calendar
- Create adaptable grant template language and formats to support future applications
Additional Responsibilities
- Digitize materials from the Live Art Dance archives
- Assist in the creation and implementation of a functional archival system for organizational materials
Qualifications
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Interest in the performing arts, arts administration, or cultural policy
- Familiarity with grant writing or funding research is an asset
- Experience with digital archiving tools or systems is a plus
Eligibility
This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs, and an applicant must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection;
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Duration & Compensation
- Start Date: July 1, 2025
- End Date: August 30, 2025
- Hours per Week: 35
- Hourly Wage: $22
