MIXED PROGRAM

Le Quattro by Wen Wei Wang

Set to Max Richter’s digitized postmodernist recomposition of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Le Quattro takes us through the changing seasons as Wen Wei Wang’s choreographic interpretation evokes images of nature, evolving weather, and the emotions they elicit.

You Are All I See by Wen Wei Wang

“This work was first commissioned for Northwest Dance Projects in Portland, Oregon, in 2017. It offers an athletic emotionality that highlights the dancers’ considerable technical skills. I invite the audience to allow themselves to see whatever they want from this work rather than look for the meaning I developed it with.”

(20 Minute Intermission)

Night Breath by Ethan Colangelo

“This process began as an exploration of sensation and tasks with the beautiful dancers of Ballet Edmonton.

My work is not driven by narrative, and it explores ideas and concepts: meditation versus chaos, ecstasy versus anxiety. I wanted to create a visual landscape where these ideas meet, pull apart, and create a dream-like state that allows the audience to find places of connection and relatability so they come with us on this journey. Having the composer Ben Waters be part of the process has been such a gift. It allowed the music to be built with detail in real-time as the piece was being constructed.”
