POSTPONED
Unfortunately, we have to postpone our presentation of “WOODS XV”, the 15th anniversary show of The Woods Hip-Hop Company, which was scheduled to take place January 16th and 17th, 2026. We’re sad to do this – the reality is that arts funding in Canada is highly unpredictable and, despite The Woods’ strong work and track record, the funding to bring this work to fruition didn’t come through. Please continue to advocate for increased and sustained funding to our artists and arts’ organizations! And stayed tuned for a new date – we’re committed to presenting this important work when it’s ready to go!

Those who have bought tickets can receive either a full refund or a donation receipt. Please contact [email protected] with your preference.

Celebrate 15 groundbreaking years with The Woods Hip-Hop Dance Company at our milestone anniversary show.  This production honours the ongoing development of Nova Scotia’s hip-hop dance community, featuring unique and powerful performances rooted in personal experiences and community connection.  The program features Breakthrough by Nat Dooks, a dynamic debut spotlighting the raw energy of breaking;  An Anxious Agenda by Olivia MacLean, a bold and introspective work that premiered in May 2025; and more. This milestone event also marks a poignant farewell: founding Artistic Director Alexis Cormier will take her final bow, officially passing leadership to Olivia MacLean. Join us as we honour our roots, celebrate our future, and continue redefining Hip-Hop as a vital and evolving fine art. This is more than a show—it’s a legacy in motion.

The Woods Hip-Hop Company

The Woods, established in 2010 by Alexis Cormier, is Atlantic Canada’s first and only professional Hip-Hop Dance Company. In our 15th season, we celebrated continued growth in professional development, employment, and mentorship. Our work has contributed to the rise of new dance schools led by both current and former company members.

We created accessible, story-driven works that elevated marginalized voices and bridged the Gap Between Hip-Hop and fine art. Our performances reached both traditional stages and public spaces, staying rooted in Hip-Hop’s origins while expanding its artistic scope. The Woods was the first Hip-Hop company presented by Live Art Dance Productions (LAD) in 2014, with return engagements in 2016 and 2018.

In 2020, we strengthened our commitment to the Black Lives Matter movement by prioritizing Black leadership in creative and production roles. Our Choreographic Mentorship Program launched in 2022 with I’thandi Munro, recipient of the Emerging Artist Recognition Award from Arts Nova Scotia. Olivia MacLean, the second mentee and a member of the Woods Company, presented her original work at Coastal Currents in May 2025, under the mentorship of Artistic Director Alexis Cormier.

We are proud to announce Nat Dook as the next recipient. His debut piece, Breakthrough, will spotlight breaking, a vital and underrepresented form of dance.
