History and Role in the Community
Live Art Dance first breathed life under the curatorial eye of Diane Moore in 1981. At the time, it was part of the IndepenDance Series at Eye Level Gallery (an artist-run visual arts centre), and today it remains one of Canada’s most provocative dance presenters.
Ten years of constant activity and innovation led Moore to founding the Live Art Productions Society: a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to stimulating a vibrant community in Atlantic Canada. Since that time, Live Art Dance has programmed an annual season featuring work by local, national, and international dance artists; workshops and Master Classes; residencies; and a variety of audience development and outreach activities. Live Art Dance has also founded and produced multiple editions of the Atlantic New Dance Festival.
In our 37 years of history, we’ve commissioned nearly 20 dance works and presented more than 60 premieres. We remain the only dance presenter in Atlantic Canada to program an annual contemporary dance series featuring national and international calibre artists.
We are constantly striving to better serve both Halifax and the national dance scene, and your feedback is important!
